12 Day Prayer Journal: Day 9

Day 9

Dr. Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade, taught, “We can trace all our human problems to an inaccurate view of God.”

He spent years writing a series called Discover God, which he left behind as a free gift to all on the internet (www.discovergod.com). I have taught his material many times and can tell you it is amazing. But, also, that site is Discover God for Kids by Kathy Bright. My 8-year-old said, “Gran-D, Because God is Awesome is my favorite book!” You cannot get a higher recommendation than that.

Kathy writes, “Teaching children that God is a Personal Spirit and how to have a relationship with Him gives them the ultimate gift: an eternal relationship with the All-Powerful, Perfectly Loving and Faithful God. Did you know no other religion is founded on relationship? God is not an impersonal force or a statue, but rather a Personal Spirit kids can get to know better every day. Without relationship, religion is only about behavior and legalism. Teaching children to have a personal relationship with God gives them eternal hope.”

  • Pray that your child will understand the unconditional love of God. This is a good time to explain that you love your children very much and will never stop loving them, but you do not love it when they disobey or make wrong choices.
  • Pray for your children to come to a personal relationship in Christ and to grow in that relationship as they develop in life.

LASTLY: Kathy has provided wonderful resources and ideas for family activities and for explaining the wonder of our God to children here. Check out her suggestion for making a Family Road Map to discover the attributes and character of God. Paul prayed for the church to continue increasing in the knowledge of God (Col. 1:10). Using Kathy’s suggestions for making a Family Road Map to discover the attributes and character of God will engage curious questions and form patterns of understanding that can be developed as your child grows.
Here is the table of contents of God’s Attributes, each one explained in a way any child can understand. But don’t try to do this in a day! Take your time and use it for a month or three months. Every lesson leads you to discussion, to prayer, and to memories. How fun is that! Thank you, Kathy.
