While many debate whether America will exist in the next century, we know that “Righteousness exalts a nation….” (Proverbs 14:34).
Various reasons are thrown around as to why America is not named in Scripture; more than we want to think about! A few popular ones are – Will we be indebted to foreign nations? Will the rapture take Christians to heaven and leave evil to rule the world? Will we forsake Israel and be forsaken by the Lord? Will nuclear weapons destroy us?
It may seem that our country’s commitment to a biblical worldview is being overtaken by the opinion of culture, but Jesus said, “Take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) Throughout the grand narrative of history, God has always had a people. While we pray in earnest for our leaders and pledge to care for the vulnerable, the Holy Spirit continues to move on the hearts of this country. No superpower can change that.
When asked about the Roe v. Wade decision, President Trump made this simple statement: “God did it.” He was right. God’s power cannot weaken; only our prayers can.
Think of these Scriptures as you pray for America and her people:
Freedom – “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32
Bravery – “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Strength – The majestic eagle decorates the country’s Great Seal as a symbol of unity and strength. But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31
To celebrate this great land is to be in partnership with God’s work within it.
CRU is a She Loves Out Loud partner. They have posted a powerful prayer guide for our nation by Christina Delgado Brown who wrote: “God calls us as believers to align our hearts with His, to intercede for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
PRAY WITH US: “Lord, our heavenly Father, we bless your name. We praise you for the land you brought forth through those Christ followers who have gone before us. For our freedom to worship, to proclaim Your Word, to fight for what we believe in, we are grateful. We pray in earnest for those in authority. We pray that this young generation will become righteous, servant-hearted leaders. We pray that Your name and Your will be lifted high. Help us to focus on “what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. (To) think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Phil 4:8
